The staff at West Alabama Women’s Center is trained to meet the medical and personal needs of each woman faced with a problem pregnancy. Our medical assistants, nurses, and sensitive counselors augment the personal support services.
As part of our commitment to informed choice, we also educate clients and assist in establishing future contraceptive plans and goals.
Willie J. Parker, MD, MPH, MSc
Medical Director of West Alabama Women's Center Inc.
Willie J. Parker is a reproductive justice advocate. Having
served as the Medical Director of Family Planning of Metropolitan
Washington DC, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and
Gynecology in the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the
University of Hawaii, and a fellowship in Family Planning at the
University of Michigan, he now serves as Associate Medical
Director of Family Planning Associates. Additionally, he is a
faculty member at the Feinberg School of Medicine of
Northwestern University, and has hospital privileges at
Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
He holds a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Berea College in Kentucky,
an MD degree from the University of Iowa, a Masters of Public
Health from the Harvard School of Public Health, and a Masters
of Science in Health Services Research from the University of
Board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and trained in
preventive medicine, training in obstetrics and gynecology at the
University of Cincinnati, preventive medicine at the University of
California, San Francisco, and the Epidemic Intelligence Service
with the Centers of Disease Control round out Dr. Parker's
expertise. His more recent work has focused on violence against
women, sexual assault, and women's reproductive health rights
through advocacy, provision of contraceptive and abortion
services, and men's reproductive health.
Dr. Parker is a widely recognized and respected advocate for his
work throughout the South on reproductive rights. He is currently
serving as Board Chair for Physicians for Reproductive Health.
Dr. Parker, Medical Director and Gloria Gray, clinic Director were
featured in the documentary "TRAPPED" (http://www.trappeddocumentary.com/
) which addresses
Targeted Regulation of abortion provider's laws that have a direct
impact on access to abortion.
West Alabama Women's Center is truly honored to have Dr.

Our support staff, all long term employees including RN's, LPN's, and Medical Assistants are extensively trained and dedicated to providing quality, non-judgmental care.
Support staff includes Registered Nurse with experience in acute care or surgical/medical setting.
Our qualified counselors are experienced in women’s issues. The counselor will explain and make sure you understand the procedure, patient risks and possible alternatives and other educational information regarding the abortion procedure.
LPN and Medical Assistants are highly qualified and trained to offer medical assistance and personal support during your abortion.
West Alabama Women’s Center is licensed by the State of Alabama Health Department and is also accredited by the National Abortion Federation.
Professional staff is on call 24 hours a day to assist you with questions or problems after your abortion.
The West Alabama Women’s Center opened in 1993 and we are extremely proud of our record for patient care.
