Emergency Contraception

What are the side effects?

Common side effects for women who use birth control pills for EC are nausea, vomiting, headaches, breast tenderness, dizziness, fluid retention and irregular bleeding. These side effects usually disappear after 1-2 days. Side effects are rare when Plan B is used. To reduce nausea, women can take EC pills with food or take anti-nausea medication. If you vomit within one hour of taking one of your EC doses, you may have to take more pills. Call your clinic for instructions.
