When will I see a Judge?

The court clerk or your lawyer will secure an appointment with a judge. You may be able to see the judge the same day, but don’t count on it, particularly in big counties. However, the court is required by law to hear and rule on your case within 72 hours (3 working days) after you file the petition.

You can extend this period of time if you have to, but the court can’t. If you experience any difficulty getting an appointment within the 72 hours, call the clinic at 1-800-616-2383 and we will speak with the judge on your behalf.
