What criteria must be met to choose this method?

Abortion Pill: Must be 18 years of age or older. Be in good health. Must be no more than 49-63 days pregnant by vaginal ultrasound. Be willing to insert the misoprostol tablets into the vagina at home. Have access to a phone and emergency transportation. Be willing to have lab tests performed, a vaginal ultrasound and a complete examination. Must live within one hour of hospital or emergency facility. Be willing to come for several visits to the clinic, there may be as few as 2-3 visits, and rarely as many as 4-5 if needed; and must agree to a surgical abortion if the medications fail.

Surgical Abortion: Must be 18 years of age or older to give consent. If under the age of 18, parental consent or judicial waiver is required. NO severe anemia, or no clotting disorders. Be willing to return to the clinic for as many visits as necessary to determine pregnancy termination is complete, usually only 1 visit. Pregnancy must be seen on ultrasound to determine intrauterine pregnancy.
